Goals

The ReFA Research Foundation has adopted urgent and extensive goals to develop and disseminate research that could save millions of people from the consequences of diet-related diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. In order to expedite the accomplishment of these goals, the Foundation is partnering with strong leaders in the appropriate fields. This summary will acquaint readers with goals in the key areas of research and treatment, public awareness, consumer products, and business consulting.

  • Research Goals
The Foundation is dedicated to creating the preponderance of evidence that refined food addiction is the disease mechanism that propels diet-related epidemics such as obesity, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. Creating this evidence is a crucial step in establishing treatment protocols and in supporting public policy programs. The Foundation seeks to:
    • Conduct animal and human trials including MRI studies to establish course of disease, disease mechanisms, and range of severity.
    • Conduct a thorough literature review to identify evidence in existing diet-related disease research.
    • Conduct prevalence studies using validated assessment instruments to determine how widespread the disease may be.

  • Treatment Goals
The Foundation seek to build opportunities for the public to receive treatment. Treatment would be based on the Foundation’s extensive experience with the classic addiction treatment model of abstinence from refined foods to put substance-based addictions into remission. The clinical experience of ReFA Research Foundation is that early death from heart disease and stroke, and blindness and amputations from diabetes can be prevented through education about abstinence from refined foods. The Foundation seeks to:
    • Establish outpatient and residential treatment centers in partnership.
    • Develop a rigorous certification program for health care professionals to make assessment and treatment widely available. The American Dietetic Association and The American College of Nutrition would be our partners.
    • Work with workplace and faith-based organizations to put new and existing research to work rapidly and accurately. This project will build on our experience with our client, Employment & Training Centers, and St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, Houston Texas. o Provide a trusted source of help for refined food addicts through patenting, branding, trademarking, and licensing of research-based treatment programs. The law firm Foley & Lardner, preeminent intellectual property attorneys, is our partner.

  • Public Awareness Goals
The Foundation seeks to develop a social movement supporting abstinence from refined foods similar to the anti-smoking movement. The Foundation hopes to accomplish this by encouraging people to attempt withdrawal, and experience the highly significant and rapid benefits of abstinence from refined foods. Early research indicates that ReFA corresponds with BMI, thus as many as 200 million Americans may suffer from the disease. The Foundation seeks to
    • Partner with PBS for documentary, television series, training tapes, and feature films that explain the disease and show the dramatic withdrawal and recovery processes.
    • Conduct a public relations campaign through national television, radio, and print media with the support of Annie Jennings, Public Relations.
    • Develop a strong Internet presence for consumer products, education, and recovery support. We are looking for a partner for this project. o Establish local advocacy groups to encourage tobacco-like remedies such as the removal of soda vending machines from schools. We are also looking for a partner for local advocacy.
    • Publish popular and scientific books. Our partners are Wiley/Blackwell Synergy in scientific publishing, Carol Mann Literary Agency in popular books, and Pam Liflander in professional writing.

  • Recovery Consumer Product Goals
The Foundation seeks to bring to market ReFA recovery products including food kits, adjustable clothing, supplements, counseling, meditation, and exercise regimes to support withdrawal and sustain recovery. Our partners are local commercial bakers.

  • Business Consulting Goals
The Foundation seeks to engage the business community in solutions to the epidemic of diet-related diseases
    • Develop human resource strategies to help employees recover from diseases related to refined food addiction
    • Show businesses and health care organizations how to bring products to the market the help recovery from refined food addiction
